Cruise ships have anchored off the Seebrücke and brought passengers ashore by tender. Expect a boat transfer for this kind of call. The pier route above applies only when the ship uses that landing.

The municipality operates the Seebrücke as a harbour landing. On 2026-09-08, excursion-boat operator Adler-Schiffe warned of intermittent pier closures during works and an access exception for its own passengers. That exception applies to Adler passengers, not automatically to cruise tenders. Follow local barriers.

Obtain the assigned landing, last tender time and mobility-aid boarding arrangements from your cruise line before going ashore. Do not use directions for Mukran or Sassnitz as though they describe a Binz landing.

About this port

Binz offers a manageable local day on Rügen: the seafront villas and beach, the lakeside promenade at Schmachter See, or a visit to the documentation centre at Prora. Choose the town if your time ashore is short; Prora or a steam-train outing needs a separately planned return journey.

Establish where you will actually come ashore before booking anything that starts in Binz; a tender call off the resort differs from a road excursion from another Rügen port.

Getting Around

Once in Binz, use the promenade and Schmachter See as the anchors for a local walk. For the Rasender Roland railway, the relevant station is Binz LB, marked as the Kleinbahnhof on the tourism board's town map; the map shows a separate mainline station. Allow for getting to the correct station as well as the train ride.

For Dokumentationszentrum Prora, plan to Dritte Straße 4. Its directions identify the Dritte Straße bus stop, about 300 metres from the entrance. Check the museum's transport links for the return as well as the outward trip; arriving somewhere within the long Prora complex is not the same as reaching this exhibition.

The municipality lists VVR bus 27 as the local service between Binz and Prora. Use its linked timetable for the landward part of an island outing; the pier itself is a pedestrian route.

Things to Do

  • A local walk: combine a look at the villas on the promenade with the shore of Schmachter See. Keep the walk reversible so you can shorten it when the return transfer approaches.
  • Prora's history: the documentation centre explains the Nazi organisation Kraft durch Freude and its planned resort. Make the exhibition your destination rather than treating the whole complex as one visitor attraction.
  • A railway outing: the operator's timetable connects Binz LB with Sellin, Baabe and Göhren. Select one destination and a return train before leaving Binz; this is an alternative to Prora for a short call.

Getting back to your ship

For Dokumentationszentrum Prora, plan to Dritte Straße 4. Its directions identify the Dritte Straße bus stop, about 300 metres from the entrance. Check the museum's transport links for the return as well as the outward trip; arriving somewhere within the long Prora complex is not the same as reaching this exhibition.

Practical Information

Currency: euro. Emergency help: 112 for fire/ambulance, 110 for police.

Check individual attraction opening information before travelling. When the Seebrücke is open, it offers a pedestrian viewpoint; the municipality prohibits vehicles, cycling and leaving bicycles there. Adler-Schiffe reports steps between its Rügen pier landings and the pier decks, so the promenade's accessibility does not describe the boat transfer.

Frequently asked

How far is Binz town centre from the tender pier? About 0.4 km along the Seebrücke from its outer end to Seebrückenvorplatz on the central promenade. This applies to a landing at that pier.

Can you walk into Binz after tendering ashore? Yes, when the Seebrücke route is open: the wooden pedestrian pier leads to the town promenade. Pier works can close that route, and the ship supplies the landing arrangements.

Do cruise ships dock or tender at Binz? They tender for calls off the resort. Documented cruise visits have anchored off the Seebrücke and transferred passengers by boat.

What bus runs between Binz and Prora? VVR bus 27 connects Binz and Prora. It serves the landward part of an island outing; the Seebrücke itself is a pedestrian route.
