The port operator lists two cruise locations:

  • Stadthafen Sassnitz: an alongside berth with mobile gangways; tender operations are also permitted. The operator gives an indicative distance of 0.6 km to the town centre.
  • Mukran Port: alongside berths and a terminal with waiting areas and coach parking. The operator gives 6.5 km to the town centre and states that tender operations are not permitted here.

Those distances describe the port locations, not a measured walk from an individual gangway. Ships normally berth alongside; the ship's instructions identify the arrival port and passenger exit. Tender permission at Stadthafen is not a statement that ships normally anchor there.

About this port

“Sassnitz” can mean a call at the town harbour or at Mukran Port, a separate terminal complex. That difference changes the day: the old harbour is a local outing in its own right, whereas a Mukran arrival needs a transfer before exploring central Sassnitz. The chalk coast at Königsstuhl is a further journey from either arrival point.

Getting Around

At Stadthafen, a harbour walk is a practical fallback if the weather or shore time makes an excursion unattractive. From Mukran, use a ship transfer or taxi into town; the distance makes an improvised walk a poor use of a short call.

For Königsstuhl, take VVR bus 23 from Sassnitz Busbahnhof or Stadthafen Parkhaus in the opposite direction to the station. The current timetable gives about 18 minutes from Stadthafen Parkhaus to Königsstuhl (checked 2026-09-08). Arrival at Mukran does not put you on that town-centre bus route: plan the connection to Sassnitz separately.

Drivers cannot normally continue to the visitor centre in a private car. The centre directs them to Hagen, then bus 19 or an approximately 3 km walk; specified disability-permit arrangements are an exception. A hired vehicle is therefore not automatically a door-to-door shortcut. The visitor centre's access page should be checked before arranging transport for anyone with limited mobility.

Things to Do

Königsstuhl National Park Centre: the Skywalk provides a view of the chalk coast, with indoor exhibitions and a cinema at the centre. Make this the main excursion rather than an extra stop after several other places. A timed or pre-bought ticket does not solve the journey back to the ship.

Sassnitz harbour: stay with the working waterfront, fish outlets and harbour-side businesses for a less scheduled visit. This option is particularly useful when already landing at Stadthafen. From Mukran it still requires the town transfer; keep that return arrangement clear.
