The Port of Kiel identifies cruise facilities at Ostseekai berths 27 and 28 and Ostuferhafen berth 1. Ships berth alongside. Ostseekai's address is Ostseekai 1; Ostuferhafen's approach is via Grenzstraße. Follow the ship's directions for the passenger exit and any transfer meeting point.
The port also operates Schwedenkai and Norwegenkai, used by ferry services. These names are not interchangeable with the cruise terminals. Norwegenkai lies across the inner harbour from the station and has a pedestrian connection via the Hörnbrücke.
About this port
Kiel's waterfront museums make a practical local outing, but the transfer into town depends on the berth. Ostseekai is on the city side of the harbour; Ostuferhafen is a separate port area on the eastern side. Establish which one the ship uses before deciding how much sightseeing to attempt.
Getting Around
For an Ostseekai call, walking is a useful starting option: the port's directions connect the terminal with the central station along the city waterfront. The Fischhalle maritime museum at Wall 65 gives that walk a specific destination. Allow separately for the walk from the ship through the terminal.
From Ostuferhafen, use a ship transfer, taxi or public bus connection; the port describes the walk into town as difficult because of the distance. Grenzstraße is the stop named in the port's directions. KVG's stop page lists 11 and X60 among its services; the port's German page still refers to the older name 60S, while its English directions use X60. The adult city-zone single costs €3.00 one way (checked 2026-09-08). Use KVG's current journey planner and service notices for the destination, direction and return connection.
For a short call from Ostuferhafen, budget for both transfers before booking an attraction. Arrange any required gangway or vehicle boarding assistance with the cruise line in advance.
Things to Do
Schifffahrtsmuseum Fischhalle: the city's maritime museum examines Kiel as a port, naval and shipbuilding centre, and a sailing venue. It is a focused indoor option for a wet day or a limited call.
Warleberger Hof: the municipal museum at Dänische Straße 19 offers another approach to Kiel through its city-history collections and exhibitions. Choose this or the Fischhalle as the main indoor visit if transfer time is tight; check the city museum pages for opening days and the exhibition on your visit date.
A walk along the waterfront can fill the remaining time without another transport commitment. Longer excursions outside Kiel need their own return plan and should not be added simply because an attraction looks close on a regional map.
Getting back to your ship
We haven't written separate return advice for this port yet. The arrival section and getting around cover the routes back.
