Prepare for a boat transfer ashore. SeaDream describes anchoring off Kolona and, for its Apokrousi beach excursion, taking passengers directly to the beach by tender. These are distinct from an arrival at Merichas. Use the ship's daily programme for your landing and last return tender.
If your ship confirms a Merichas landing, the port fund places cafés, tavernas, buses and taxis around the harbour village. Those facilities should not be assumed at a beach landing. Allow time for tender queues; SeaDream requires participants in the Apokrousi excursion to be able to board and disembark the boats.
About this port
Kythnos suits a shore day built around a beach or village visit, but first establish where your ship will land you. Merichas is the main harbour on the west coast; cruise calls can instead use offshore anchorages and beach landings. Chora, also called Messaria, is a separate inland settlement.
With only a few hours available, choose one outing that fits your landing. Chora and Dryopida offer different village settings, while Loutra's thermal springs and the double bay at Kolona require their own transport arrangements. Trying to include all of them would leave little room for a delayed departure or return.
Getting Around
Chora is 8 km from Merichas, according to the municipality's settlement guide. This is the harbour-to-village journey, separate from a SeaDream beach landing. For arrivals at Merichas, the port fund describes two bus corridors: one towards Chora and Loutra, the other towards Dryopida and Kanala. Check current departures in both directions before boarding. If you land at a beach, establish a transfer before relying on this harbour-based network.
The municipality lists taxi and vehicle-hire contacts on its tourism information page. Arrange a return collection for a taxi outing, especially to a remote beach. Treat Chora as a separate excursion and agree where the driver will meet you.
Things to Do
Merichas waterfront. If you land here, a meal and harbour stroll make a simple outing. Keep clear of vehicle movements when passenger vessels load. From a beach landing, Merichas would require its own transport plan.
Chora or Dryopida. The municipality identifies both as the island's principal inland villages. Chora provides the whitewashed lanes associated with the Cyclades; Dryopida is another option for a village visit. Choose one, explore on foot after arrival and establish the collection point before disappearing into the lanes.
Loutra. The thermal springs give this seaside settlement its particular character. Visit for the waterfront and the springs, but check any bathing facility directly before planning paid treatment or indoor access.
Kolona. A narrow strip of sand separates two bays. The port fund describes boat outings from Merichas towards this beach; operating days, sea conditions and the return time need confirmation. Consider it an alternative to an inland trip.

Practical Information
Currency: euro (€). Language: Greek. For emergencies, call 112.
Bring water, sun protection and shoes with grip for village paving. Keep enough cash for small purchases. The municipality highlights local cheeses, thyme honey and almond sweets; ask what is available rather than expecting a fixed menu.
Opening arrangements for churches, caves and bathing facilities can change. Use municipal visitor contacts for current access, and retain a generous margin before the ship's return deadline.
