Cruise ships dock in the port's cruise area. The Hellenic Ports Association describes several cruise berths, passenger stations and transport between ships and the terminal. Follow the instructions for your assigned berth: the distance within the port can be a material part of the journey. Port profile.
The free port shuttle ends at the passenger terminal. For the onward trip into town, line 15 leaves from inside the port, in the cruise-ship and Albania-ferry mooring area, and serves San Rocco Square.
Use the authorised passenger exit for the walk into the Old Town. The terminal-to-town distance excludes the journey from your ship to the terminal.
About this port
Corfu Town, or Kerkyra, is an appealing focus for a first cruise visit: its fortified old town, lanes and squares provide enough for several hours without an island tour. The Old Town has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007. Its Venetian fortifications and later urban architecture reflect successive periods of rule and rebuilding. UNESCO listing.
Cruise passengers arrive at the New Port, separate from the historic waterfront. Plan the transfer first, then choose a compact old-town route. A beach outing is another option, but combining one with extensive sightseeing can make a short call unnecessarily hurried.
Getting Around
Urban bus line 15 is listed in the operator's current route index between the port, San Rocco Square, the intercity bus station and the airport. San Rocco provides access to the town and onward urban services. Use the urban bus itinerary page for the service applicable to your visit.
Line 2b also links the port with San Rocco Square in the current route index. Buy the ordinary Zone A ticket before boarding; tickets bought on the bus carry a surcharge.
Taxis and ship-arranged transfers are alternatives. Agree the destination and price before travelling, and retain the return pickup details. Trips elsewhere on the island may require a connection at the intercity bus station; the port–town bus is not a direct service to every resort.
Things to Do
Explore the old-town streets. Use the New Fortress area, St Spyridon's church and the squares towards Liston as reference points, with time to wander between them. The municipality's landmarks guide describes the town's principal buildings and streets. Respect worshippers if entering a church and check any restrictions at the door.
Pause around Liston and Spianada. This makes a convenient break between walking through the lanes and approaching the Old Fortress. Choose whether to visit the fortress interior according to the day's opening arrangements and your ability to manage the climb. Seeing the fortifications from the town is also worthwhile and does not require committing to every viewpoint.
Choose a beach instead. Dassia is described by the Port Authority as a strip of sand and fine pebbles with visitor facilities. Urban line 7 links the town with Dassia and Ipsos; check the connection and return on the current operator page. The Port Authority beach guide provides local context. This is an excursion from town, so allow for reaching the bus first and returning to the cruise port afterwards.
For a limited call, finish with a meal or browsing in the old town rather than adding a distant second destination. Keep the return journey independent of any final purchase or café stop.
Getting back to your ship
Taxis and ship-arranged transfers are alternatives. Agree the destination and price before travelling, and retain the return pickup details. Trips elsewhere on the island may require a connection at the intercity bus station; the port–town bus is not a direct service to every resort.
Practical Information
Currency: euro. Language: Greek. Emergency: call 112 free of charge.
Wear shoes suitable for stone streets and carry water. Ask about steps and slopes if arranging a fortress visit or an accessible taxi. Keep the ship's boarding deadline separate from the bus's arrival time: there may still be a terminal and quay transfer before you reach the gangway.
