The Municipal Port Fund confirms that Corinth's commercial harbour serves both cargo vessels and cruise ships. It describes waterfront quays and a breakwater used for berthing, supporting a dock classification. The fishing shelter is a separate part of the harbour facilities. Official port description.

Follow the designated passenger route out of this working port, keeping clear of cargo operations. Pegasus on the waterfront is a useful town landmark; Ancient Corinth is a separate inland destination.

Specify the cruise berth when arranging a return taxi. The port, Ancient Corinth and the canal should not be treated as interchangeable meeting points, and a generic destination of “Corinth” can leave unnecessary room for misunderstanding.

About this port

A Corinth call involves three separate places: the modern waterfront city, Ancient Corinth inland and the canal across the isthmus. The commercial harbour serves the modern city. It does not place you among the Temple of Apollo's ruins or at a canal viewpoint, so decide which destination matters most before leaving the ship.

Ancient Corinth and its museum make a strong archaeological outing. A shorter visit can stay around the modern town, while a pre-arranged road excursion may include a canal stop. Treat the fortress of Acrocorinth as an additional hilltop destination, with its own access needs and time allowance.

Getting Around

Ancient Corinth requires a separate journey from the modern town. The American School of Classical Studies, which conducts excavations there, identifies the archaeological site in the village of Archaia Korinthos and describes taxi and bus access. Excavation project's visiting guidance.

KTEL Korinthias publishes a Corinth–Ancient Corinth route page. Check the current seasonal timetable and departure point with the operator: that route page retains winter material. Allow time to reach the port from the town stop. The Hellenic Heritage visitor page gives about 20 minutes by KTEL bus from modern Corinth to Ancient Corinth, or about 10 minutes by car.

A taxi or organised excursion can combine Ancient Corinth with another stop if the call is long enough. Agree the total itinerary, waiting time, price and return deadline in advance. For a few hours ashore, adding a rail journey to Athens would consume time better spent at the local sights.

Things to Do

Explore Ancient Corinth. The archaeological site lies below Acrocorinth, around the archaic Temple of Apollo. Excavation has revealed the Roman forum, fountains, baths and other civic and religious remains. Look at the relationship between the monuments rather than trying to fit every ruin into a hurried circuit. The municipal archaeological guide describes the site and its museum.

Include the museum. Displays range from prehistoric material to finds from the city's later history. The museum is within the archaeological site, making the two a natural combined visit. Consult the Ministry of Culture museum entry for current tickets, opening arrangements and accessibility contacts.

See the canal from land. The canal cuts across the isthmus for approximately 6.35 km, according to its operator. Arrange a stop at an appropriate public viewing point with your driver. It is an engineering sight in its own right; seeing it does not depend on a vessel passing during your visit. A cruise call at Corinth also does not establish that your ship will transit the canal. Canal operator's description.

If time is short, choose the archaeological site or the canal rather than squeezing both into uncertain transport connections. Allow a final break in the modern town only after the main excursion is complete.
