At Adamas, small cruise ships can use the quay, while larger ships anchor and transfer passengers ashore by boat. The Municipal Port Fund of Milos explicitly describes both arrangements. Confirm which applies to your ship and follow the crew's directions to the passenger exit or tender landing.
The waterfront is the place to orient yourself after landing. If you arrive by tender, identify the return point before leaving: it need not be interchangeable with a ferry boarding ramp or excursion-boat berth. Tender queues and sea conditions can reduce the usable time ashore.
Adamas is a port village with bus and taxi facilities near the harbour. The bus operator places its main terminal in the village centre, about 100 metres east of the ferries.
About this port
Milos rewards a selective shore plan. Its volcanic landscape is the main attraction, but the port town of Adamas also provides a useful museum visit and a waterfront base. A short call is best spent on one outing, followed by time near the landing, rather than a hurried circuit of several beaches.
Adamas, also written Adamantas, is the island's main port. Plaka and the other inland settlements require a separate journey. Sarakiniko offers pale rock formations and sea views, while Kleftiko is a coastal destination to consider only when the boat trip fits your ship's return deadline.
Getting Around
The local bus network lists routes from Adamas to Plaka, Trypiti, Pollonia and several beaches, including Sarakiniko. The operator publishes a maximum journey-time range of 15–20 minutes across its network and a €2 one-way fare per boarding, cash only (checked 2026-09-08). Use the operator's timetable page to choose an outward and return departure that fit your call.
The cruise port source also lists taxis. Arrange a return collection and agree the price for an island outing; avoid relying on finding an unoccupied vehicle at a beach. Plaka can be a straightforward single-destination excursion if the transport timings work.
Boat trips require particular care with duration. Establish the actual departure quay, where the trip finishes and whether its advertised length leaves time for the ship's final tender. A full island circuit and an inland village visit are usually alternatives for a short port day.
Things to Do
Adamas and the Mining Museum. The Milos Mining Museum is in Adamas and explains the island's geological and mining history. It makes a useful starting point for understanding the landscape, or a main visit when you prefer to stay near the port. Consult the museum for current hours.
Sarakiniko. The national tourism board identifies this as one of the island's distinctive coastal sights. Go for the rock formations and views as well as the possibility of swimming. Check conditions on arrival and keep to surfaces where you can walk securely; a sightseeing stop does not require entering the water.
Kleftiko. White coastal formations make this another characteristic Milos landscape. Consider a boat outing only after confirming the route and reliable return arrangements. Do not assume a sailing excursion can be shortened to match a cruise departure.
Plaka. Use the bus or an arranged transfer for an inland village stop. Leave time for its lanes and a café, and return to Adamas well before your ship's deadline. If adding a museum or archaeological site, confirm its location and opening arrangements separately.
Getting back to your ship
The cruise port source also lists taxis. Arrange a return collection and agree the price for an island outing; avoid relying on finding an unoccupied vehicle at a beach. Plaka can be a straightforward single-destination excursion if the transport timings work.
