Cruise ships berth at the port's cruise facilities. Piraeus Port Authority identifies three passenger terminals; its cruise map labels them A, B and C, with A named Miaoulis. Record your terminal letter and the exit or gate given by the ship. Do not assume that another cruise terminal, or the metro station named Piraeus, is beside your berth.

Use the internal port shuttle to reach the passenger terminal before joining transport to Athens.

About this port

At Piraeus, deciding how to leave the cruise terminal is part of planning a visit to Athens. A city excursion needs both the journey inland and a return to the correct terminal. For a short call, staying in Piraeus around Marina Zea avoids making an Athens transfer the centre of the day.

Getting Around

Seasonal X80 express bus: X80 is suspended from 2 November 2026. Its usual summer season is May–October, with exact dates announced by OASA. Check for a new start notice before planning to use it. During its operating season, buses leave the terminal-area stops at Coast Xaveriou and Coast Miaouli for Syntagma, taking about 30 minutes in the bus. Outward and return stops in Athens are separate, so save the return stop before exploring. Road traffic can lengthen the journey.

During the summer X80 season, the 24-hour ticket costs €4.10 and covers the return journey to Athens, including unlimited X80 journeys but excluding airport services. The standard 90-minute city ticket is not valid on this summer express bus.

Metro: Line 3 serves Piraeus and Dimotiko Theatro and connects with Monastiraki and Syntagma. Airport trains also use Line 3, so a change to Line 1 at Monastiraki is not inherently required for a Piraeus–airport journey. Check the train destination and current service notices. The rail journey is only one part of the transfer: include the connection between the assigned cruise terminal and the station.

Taxi or arranged transfer: Give the driver the specific terminal and gate for the return. Compare the complete return journey with the bus or metro option, including terminal access.

Things to Do

Choose an Athens focus: The Acropolis is a UNESCO World Heritage site that includes the Parthenon. Alternatively, the Acropolis Museum provides an indoor visit centred on finds from the Acropolis. Check admission and any required entry time with the attraction before fixing the transport plan. For a short call, choose one as the main visit and add more only once the return journey is accounted for.

Stay in Piraeus: Athens's official tourism guide identifies Marina Zea as a waterfront area with cafés and restaurants. Use it as a local destination with a planned route back to your terminal; it is a different harbour area from the cruise berths.
