Expect a tender transfer: Skiathos appears on Seabourn's published tender-port list. That evidence describes the cruise line's operations rather than every visiting vessel.

Skiathos Town surrounds the harbour, whose old and new port areas are divided by Bourtzi. The port authority sets aside areas for cruise passengers, but your crew will identify the landing used for your call. Once ashore, locate it before heading into town or arranging a taxi.

Ask the crew about tender accessibility if needed, and budget for the transfer as well as the time spent on land. The last-tender deadline is specific to your ship's daily programme.

About this port

Skiathos offers two straightforward ways to use a short call: explore its harbour town and museums, or take a bus or arranged transfer to a beach. The island belongs to the Sporades, and its combination of wooded landscapes, beaches and town streets makes it tempting to plan too much. Choose one main outing and keep the final part of the visit near your return landing.

For a town day, Bourtzi and the Papadiamantis House Museum provide a useful focus. For beach time, Koukounaries is served by the island's public transport network, but a return journey still needs to fit your ship's tender arrangements.

Getting Around

Walking is the practical choice for the town's museums and harbour frontage. Some visits involve steps: the municipality specifically describes an external wooden staircase into the upper floor of the Papadiamantis house. Choose your route with the needs of your party in mind.

Skiathos Transports publishes routes and timetables for the port, Koukounaries and other island destinations, including Evangelistria. Its current Port–Koukounaries service uses Ticket 1, priced at €3 one way (checked 2026-09-08). Revised timetables took effect on 7 September 2026; use the current table and allow time for the return journey.

The operator lists a ticket kiosk at the port and ticket sales aboard buses. For a taxi outing, agree the pickup place, fare and return time in advance. Book ahead if a taxi is essential to your outing.

Things to Do

Walk to Bourtzi and explore the maritime museum. The peninsula sits between the old and new harbours. Its former school building houses the Maritime and Cultural Tradition Museum, which introduces Skiathos's shipbuilding and seafaring history. The municipality's museum information describes the collections.

Visit the Papadiamantis House Museum. This was the home in which the writer Alexandros Papadiamantis grew up and later died; his birthplace no longer survives. The preserved domestic rooms and furnishings make a compact cultural stop. The municipality places the house around 100 metres inland from the eastern waterfront, off Papadiamantis Street. That distance is from the waterfront, not a promise about your tender landing.

Choose one beach. Koukounaries has sand and wooded surroundings and is a useful option to consider alongside the public-bus timetable. Arrange your return before settling in and leave room for a full bus or a slower journey. On a short call, a town visit may give you more usable time than a beach transfer in each direction.

Consider Evangelistria for a different excursion. The monastery's museum displays religious objects associated with the island's post-Byzantine history. Use the relevant bus route or arrange a taxi. Combining the monastery, Koukounaries and several town museums is better left to a longer stay.

Getting back to your ship

The operator lists a ticket kiosk at the port and ticket sales aboard buses. For a taxi outing, agree the pickup place, fare and return time in advance. Book ahead if a taxi is essential to your outing.

Practical Information

The currency is the euro (€), and Greek is the official language. Dial 112 in an emergency. Bring water, sun protection and the contact details supplied by your cruise line.

Check individual museum and monastery opening arrangements; there is no single island-wide schedule. Keep the ship's return instructions handy, and allow time at the landing rather than aiming to arrive at the last possible moment.
