The cruise harbour is in the town centre. The port authority's 2024 manual documents cruise berths and an anchorage served by a tender pier. Depending on allocation, you may walk off at a quay or use the ship's tenders.

The 2024 manual places the port within the town centre. Visit Nordkapp describes the town as compact, mostly level and easy to explore on foot, with its tourist information office next to the harbour.

If mobility is a concern, ask about the actual gangway or tender arrangements before going ashore. A central harbour does not mean that every route to a museum, vehicle or viewpoint is step-free.

About this port

Honningsvåg is the main town on Magerøya and the usual starting point for a North Cape excursion. You can spend a short call around its central harbour and museum, or use the available time for a road journey to the plateau. Choose between those plans after considering the weather and the ship's departure time.

The North Cape is a dramatic coastal viewpoint, but the familiar claim that it is Europe's absolute northernmost point is too simple. Nearby Knivskjellodden extends farther north, and the plateau itself is on an island. The attraction is the setting and the experience of reaching it.

Getting Around

Honningsvåg itself can be explored on foot. The North Cape plateau requires a road journey across Magerøya. A ship excursion, a pre-arranged local tour or a booked taxi with an agreed return makes the transport easier to manage.

For public buses, consult Snelandia using the exact destination and date. Do not rely on an old route number or assume a bus continues to the plateau simply because it serves the island.

Bus stops have also changed. As checked on 7 September 2026, Snelandia directs routes 110, 240, 241 and Fleks 815 to Øvergata kryss instead of the former Honningsvåg stop. Follow the operator's current notice and journey planner, and keep public-bus stops separate from excursion-coach meeting points.

Things to Do

Visit the North Cape plateau. Arrange a complete return journey and establish what is included at North Cape Hall. The destination offers the coastal viewpoint and indoor interpretation, but low cloud can obscure the outlook. Choose this as the main outing rather than squeezing it between other distant stops.

Explore the North Cape Museum. At Holmen 1 beside the harbour, the museum covers life along the Finnmark coast, local history, wartime destruction and reconstruction. It is a useful alternative when you prefer to stay in town or conditions reduce the appeal of a viewpoint excursion.

Walk around Honningsvåg. The harbour, shops, galleries and cafés make a modest local circuit. A food stop and museum visit can provide a fuller picture of life on Magerøya than spending the entire call in a vehicle. Keep operational fishing areas clear as you walk.

Consider a fishing-village or wildlife outing. Gjesvær and the surrounding seabird landscape are among the region's excursion options. Such a trip adds a road transfer and potentially another boat journey. Check the season, weather conditions and return arrangements before choosing it over the North Cape.

The hike to Knivskjellodden is a substantial outing, not a brief extension to the plateau viewpoint. A short cruise call is better spent on a plan with less demanding logistics.

Getting back to your ship

Take windproof clothing and a warm layer for exposed viewpoints. Check current attraction opening and admission information instead of relying on old excursion prices. Leave time for the journey back to the harbour and, where applicable, the final tender transfer.

Practical Information

Use Norwegian kroner (NOK). Norwegian is spoken locally and English is widely understood. Dial 110 for fire, 112 for police or 113 for an ambulance.
