Ships dock at the port, which has a large-cruise quay and a smaller West Pier. The passenger terminal includes security and visitor facilities. Use the marked route out of the berth, because parts of the port remain controlled working areas.

The port's Catalan practical-information page gives 500 metres between the port and the centre. Its passenger FAQ gives an eight-minute walk to the old town.

The port shuttle runs continuously between the terminal and town centre from 09:00 to 14:00. Taxis at the terminal require prior reservation, and the shuttle has a wheelchair ramp.

About this port

Palamós is a good port for staying local. The fishing harbour, old streets and main town beach can be combined without committing to a long excursion inland. A museum visit followed by a walk and lunch makes a satisfying programme for a few hours ashore.

The coastline is part of the attraction, but a short call does not need to become a race along the Costa Brava. Choose a compact route first and extend it only when the return time allows.

Getting Around

Walking is practical for the waterfront, old centre and Platja Gran. The old streets involve more changes of level than the promenade, so choose the route that fits your mobility.

For a longer excursion, the port identifies Moventis Sarfa services from the town bus station, including connections towards Girona and Barcelona. Use the operator's current timetable and choose the return before setting out. The city bus station is not beside every cruise gangway.

A prearranged excursion can be useful for an inland destination, but compare the complete travelling time with the hours available. Do not assume that a distant museum or city can be added to a full local morning.

Things to Do

Visit the Museu de la Pesca. The museum explains the fishing trade and the relationship between the town and the sea. It offers a useful introduction before walking around the public harbour frontage. Check the museum's own website for current admission and opening information.

Choose a fishing-related activity in advance. The museum also organises visits connected with fishing boats, the auction and seafood culture. These are separate activities with their own arrangements, not something to assume is included with a museum ticket or available whenever a ship calls.

Explore the old town. The streets around Santa Maria del Mar offer a different atmosphere from the working harbour. Take a short loop, look at the church exterior and allow time for a café stop.

Relax at Platja Gran. The principal urban beach lies by the promenade near the port. It makes an easy alternative to a longer excursion, or a final stop after the museum. Leave time to change and return to the correct port entrance.

Getting back to your ship

Practical Information

Use euros (€). Catalan and Spanish are used locally. Call 112 for emergencies.

Take sun protection and water for the quay and beach. The port FAQ lists a ramp-equipped shuttle; gangway assistance is a separate shipboard arrangement. Allow time for security on the return.
