Cruise vessels can dock at the port's west quay or anchor in Roses Bay and bring passengers ashore by tender. Ports de la Generalitat's cruise information explicitly distinguishes the cruise quay from the passenger-boat landing.
The 1 km figure applies to the cruise dock. Tender passengers use a separate passenger-boat landing, so it is not a tender-boat travel estimate.
Follow the designated exit from the operational port. Taxis at the terminal require prior reservation according to the port FAQ.
If arriving by tender, keep the last boat time and landing instructions with you. Allow for the transfer and any queue as well as the walk back along the waterfront.
About this port
Roses is a practical base for a coastal day on the northern Costa Brava. Its waterfront, archaeological Citadel and nearby castle provide enough variety for a short call without travelling inland.
Choose between the town and a longer outing before leaving the port. Figueres and the Dalí sites are separate destinations, while Cap de Creus involves further travel beyond the bay. A local programme leaves more flexibility if the ship is using tenders.
Getting Around
Walking is useful for the promenade and central streets. The castle is higher and further along the coast, so it should be a deliberate extension rather than something to add when you are almost due back.
The official passenger information places the bus station on Carrer Riera Ginjolers and identifies town taxi stops. For a regional outing, check the actual outward and return connections before leaving Roses. A station's existence does not guarantee a suitable connection for a particular call.
If visiting a Dalí museum, organise admission and transport together. Avoid combining several museums or coastal towns unless your excursion explicitly allows enough time for the full route and return.
Things to Do
Explore the Citadel. Behind the defensive enclosure are remains from several periods, including the Greek settlement, Roman occupation and the monastery of Santa Maria. The museum helps connect the ruins with the town's history. Consult the municipal visitor page for current opening and activities.
Choose the Castle of the Trinity for views and defence history. The artillery fortress above the lighthouse dates from the sixteenth century and complements the Citadel. It is not simply a medieval wall tower. Check the castle's opening information before arranging transport or tackling the uphill approach.
Enjoy the bay locally. A promenade walk, time in the central streets and a café stop form an easier alternative to the castle. Set a turnaround point that leaves time for the full journey back to your ship.
Make Figueres a separate excursion. The Dalí Theatre-Museum requires time and attention, so keep the local itinerary modest if travelling inland. The Dalí Foundation's visitor FAQ explains advance booking and distinguishes Figueres from the separately managed visit arrangements at Portlligat.
