A Star Clippers excursion document updated 21 July 2026 describes passengers leaving the ship in a local motorboat for a 30-minute journey through the Dalyan delta to Kaunos. The return boat drops passengers at İztuzu beach, where the ship's tender provides the return aboard.

Regional tourism information also describes local boats serving yachts off İztuzu. Dalyan town is not the passenger landing for this itinerary, so a town-centre map pin would be misleading.

About this port

Dalyan is a destination reached through coastal and river-boat arrangements. The main planning choice is whether to spend the outing exploring Kaunos on foot or concentrating on the waterways and İztuzu beach. The boats and their return points are part of the excursion, not a detail to sort out afterwards.

Getting Around

Read the whole excursion sequence before choosing independent transport: the boat takes passengers directly to the archaeological visit rather than first providing free time in town. Kaunos is on the west side of the river opposite Dalyan, and visiting it entails walking as well as water transport.

The line's Kaunos excursion warns of extensive uneven walking, inclines and steps. If that does not suit you, ask what boat assistance is available on a less strenuous option. A town or beach visit still involves boarding a small boat.

Things to Do

  • Kaunos: the regional culture directorate describes a former harbour city left inland by the developing delta. Its theatre, baths and other remains make a focused archaeological outing.
  • River landscape and tomb façades: the rock-cut tombs above the water are associated with Kaunos and include temple-style façades dating from the fourth century BCE. Viewing them during a boat journey can provide context without adding a separate climb.
  • İztuzu beach: this lies within the Köyceğiz–Dalyan Special Environmental Protection Area and supports loggerhead-turtle breeding. Follow local signs and protection measures, and ask exactly where your boat collects passengers before walking along the beach.

Getting back to your ship

We haven't written separate return advice for this port yet. The arrival section and getting around cover the routes back.

Practical Information

Carry Turkish lira for purchases and dial 112 for emergencies. Bring water, sun protection and footwear suitable for both boat boarding and uneven ground.

Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed. Avoid disturbing turtles or nesting areas and take litter away. If remaining at the beach after an excursion, note the last tender with ship staff before separating from the group.

Frequently asked

Can you walk from the ship into Dalyan? No. Star Clippers uses a local motorboat through the delta rather than a town-centre passenger landing.

How long is the boat ride to Kaunos from the Dalyan cruise call? About 30 minutes on Star Clippers' September 2026 itinerary, including a photo stop at the rock-cut tombs.

Where does the Dalyan excursion boat leave passengers on the return? At İztuzu beach on the published Star Clippers itinerary, where passengers may stay for a swim or take the tender back to the ship.
