Arrival & Getting Ashore

Getting to the centre: After the Zodiac landing in Komiža harbour, use the Fishermen's Museum on Riva Svetoga Mikule as your central waterfront landmark.

  • Public transport: for an onward trip to Vis Town, Nautički centar Komiža's direct Komiža–Vis bus takes about 20 minutes; €3.50 one way from 15 June to 15 September 2026, €3.00 one way during the rest of 2026, paid in cash on boarding. It leaves from Hrvatskih mučenika 17; this is an island connection, not a harbour-to-centre bus.

Plan for a tender arrival: Ponant explicitly describes anchoring off Komiža and bringing passengers into the harbour by Zodiac, then exploring the port on foot or by bicycle. SeaDream also lists Komiža as a cruise destination. The tourist board's waterfront berths and mooring buoys describe visiting-boat facilities.

The waterfront is a practical base for a town walk after landing. Obtain your exact return landing and last-boarding time from the ship before leaving. The tourist board's port contact is on Riva Svetoga Mikule, the town waterfront.

About this port

A Komiža day presents two different commitments: remain in the town on western Vis, or add a boat excursion to Biševo's Blue Cave. The second involves another island and a controlled cave visit. Choose it only after checking the complete journey against the ship's return deadline.

Getting Around

For a short call, use the town waterfront as your base and select one local stop. The tourist board lists the Fishermen's Museum at Riva Svetoga Mikule 4 and Gusarica among the town's beaches.

The port authority places Vis Town about 10 km away by the newer road. The direct bus reaches Ravnica Matice hrvatske in Vis Town in about 20 minutes. Komiža's tourist board publishes the local bus timetable: the edition checked on 8 September 2026 covers 7–20 September 2026 in both directions. Some return departures depend on ferry arrivals. Use the tourist board's transport page for the timetable applicable to your visit and allow for delays; a ferry connection is not timed to your cruise ship.

Biševo adds a further transfer: authorised Blue Cave visits start at Mezoporat cove and must be accompanied by the concession holder. Ask an excursion provider to account for the sea crossing, boarding, any wait for admission and the return to your ship. Keep a town plan available if the excursion cannot operate.

Things to Do

  • Fishermen's Museum: a local cultural stop in the waterfront castle. The tourist board lists the venue, but its undated hours should be checked before relying on entry.
  • Gusarica beach: a possible shore stop if the route, swimming conditions and time ashore suit you. Bring the ship's return instructions with you.
  • Blue Cave: make this your main excursion rather than an addition to a Vis Town trip. The protected cave is visited under the concession system; independent entry is not permitted.

Getting back to your ship

Biševo adds a further transfer: authorised Blue Cave visits start at Mezoporat cove and must be accompanied by the concession holder. Ask an excursion provider to account for the sea crossing, boarding, any wait for admission and the return to your ship. Keep a town plan available if the excursion cannot operate.

Practical Information

  • Cave rules: swimming and diving in the Blue Cave are prohibited. Follow the concession holder's instructions during the visit.
  • Currency: euro (€), introduced in Croatia on 1 January 2023.
  • Mobility: a Biševo excursion adds another boat boarding to the ship-to-shore transfer. Arrange any boarding assistance for both stages before booking.
  • Emergencies: call 112, free of charge and available at all hours in Croatia; English-language calls are supported.
