Gavrio appears in Star Clippers' small-ship cruise programme. Batsi is a documented alternative: a cruise ship diverted there from Gavrio because of sea conditions, anchored offshore and landed passengers.

Gavrio's normal dock-versus-tender practice remains unresolved; use your ship's daily programme for the actual harbour, landing and final return or tender time.

About this port

On Andros, the arrival harbour determines the outing. Gavrio is the main ferry port on the west coast and appears in Star Clippers' cruise programme. Batsi has also received cruise passengers by boat from an offshore anchorage. Chora, the capital, is a separate destination across the island; allow for the road journey before choosing its museums and architecture as your focus.

Getting Around

The municipality describes a road route from Gavrio south through Batsi, with a later junction towards Chora. That makes Batsi a different commitment from crossing to the capital. For a short call, choose one destination and arrange transport back to the same confirmed harbour.

The municipal website lists taxi contacts for Gavrio, Batsi and Chora. Book the pickup and return together for a cross-island outing.

KTEL Andros publishes routes linking Gavrio, Batsi and Chora. Its September 2026 timetable was checked on 2026-09-08; use the operator's current timetable to compare both directions with your ship's return deadline. The operator warns that departures from Gavrio can be delayed by up to 30 minutes while waiting for ferries. Leave this margin in addition to the journey and tender time.

Things to Do

  • Chora for architecture and museums: Visit the capital only with enough time for the road journey both ways. The national tourism board describes its combination of Cycladic and neoclassical buildings, squares and museums. The Archaeological Museum is on Theophilos Kairis (Kairi) Square.
  • Batsi for a coastal outing: The municipality identifies it as a fishing village with visitor facilities and beaches south of Gavrio. It is an alternative to Chora, not an obligatory stop on the same excursion.
  • Stay near the confirmed harbour: If transfer arrangements are uncertain or time ashore is reduced, keep the walk local instead of starting a cross-island journey.

Practical Information

Greece uses the euro (€); Greek is its official EU language. Call 112 free of charge for an emergency.

Bring water and sun protection. Chora includes steps, and the island's walking trails should not be assumed suitable for every passenger. Establish the specific route and transport access if mobility is limited.
