Ships dock at Itea's town harbour. The Region of Central Greece announced the inauguration of the upgraded port on 24 April 2026, including new berthing infrastructure and harbour deepening. The announcement says the works enable it to receive cruise ships exceeding 210 metres. Regional announcement.

The harbour is associated with the town waterfront, but the precise gangway, pedestrian exit and coach pickup depend on the berth. Use the authorised passenger route and pickup location supplied by shore staff.

Do not confuse the cruise berth with the separate marina facilities when arranging a taxi. Give the driver the ship's name and the meeting point supplied on board.

About this port

Itea is a coastal town on the north side of the Gulf of Corinth and a gateway to Delphi. The essential decision is whether to spend the call on the waterfront or travel inland to the archaeological site. Delphi deserves a substantial share of the day, including the road journey, walking among the monuments and time for the museum.

A port call here should be planned around one main outing. Trying to add several mountain villages to Delphi can leave little time at the place that prompted the journey in the first place.

Getting Around

Delphi is an inland road excursion, approximately 17 km from Itea in the public marina-location material. A ship excursion or taxi with a pre-arranged return is the most straightforward planning choice when your time is limited. Agree whether waiting, stops and the return to the cruise berth are included before travelling.

KTEL Fokidas publishes an Itea–Delphi route page with services in both directions, linked from its current timetable directory. Its Itea office is at 31, 28is Oktovriou; the Delphi office is at 8 Apollonos. Some return services run via Chrisso and Amfissa, so select the route as well as the departure time. Choose a return that leaves time to reach the cruise berth.

The bus has gaps that can shape your day: Itea departures include 10:30 and 15:45 daily. From Delphi, the 13:00 direct service runs every day; on Saturdays, the next direct departure is 20:15 (timetable checked 2026-10-15; subject to change). Match both journeys to your ship's call, with time for travel and sightseeing.

Things to Do

Give Delphi priority. The Archaeological Site of Delphi has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1987. Its sanctuary of Apollo and oracle had influence across the ancient Greek world. Surviving monuments include temples, treasuries, a theatre and stadium arranged on the slopes of Mount Parnassus. The setting is part of the experience, but also means a visit involves climbing. UNESCO listing.

Include the museum. The museum provides context for objects recovered from the sanctuary. The €20 full ticket covers both the archaeological site and museum (checked 2026-10-15; subject to change). Plan them together and use Hellenic Heritage visitor information for current opening arrangements. The modern road separates the sanctuary of Apollo from that of Athena Pronaia, so allow for moving between areas instead of treating the whole complex as one compact enclosure.

Keep a coastal alternative. If the heat, mobility requirements or length of the call makes Delphi unsuitable, stay in Itea. A waterfront walk with a meal is a reasonable low-commitment plan. Establish your return route first, then choose how far to wander. There is no need to turn a short shore break into an inland excursion simply because Delphi appears in the port's name on an itinerary.

Practical Information

Currency: euro. Language: Greek. Emergency: call 112 free of charge.

Wear shoes with grip for Delphi and carry water and sun protection.

The museum's permanent exhibition is served by a lift. For assisted outdoor access, a special vehicle goes as far as the Temple of Apollo. Notify the Ephorate of Antiquities of Phocis at least seven days before your visit on +30 22650 82312 or efafok@culture.gr to arrange it (accessibility guidance, checked 2026-10-15). This is a limited route, so plan the rest of the outdoor visit around what you can manage.

Check current conditions and opening arrangements directly rather than relying on generic seasonal hours. Leave a return margin for the road journey and port entry.
