Linaria receives cruise visits as well as ferries and tourist craft. The Port Fund records cruise use, and local reporting documents Royal Clipper's May 2024 visit. Evidence remains thin in both directions: a cruise call may use a quay or a small-boat transfer. Use the landing method and excursion meeting point in your ship's daily programme.

Chora is a road transfer from Linaria: the national tourism board gives 10.1 km and 15 minutes by car or taxi from the port to Faltaits Museum in town. Linaria itself is beside the harbour. If your call lands there, follow the port staff's route to your vehicle pickup, particularly when ferries are loading.

About this port

Skyros offers a compact harbour visit or a trip inland to Chora, the island's main town. Linaria is the sea gateway, while Chora's houses and lanes climb below a castle. The contrast matters on a cruise call: arriving at the port does not put you in the main sightseeing district.

For a few hours ashore, choose Chora with one museum, or stay around Linaria for an unhurried waterfront break. Add a beach only with a return transport plan.

Getting Around

The municipality's local transport page explains that KTEL Chalkida services connect with ferry journeys. Municipal timetable material gives about 15 minutes for the Linaria–Aspous–Chora route. These are public bus services linked to ferry movements, not a dedicated cruise shuttle; use the date-specific table for your call.

If the timetable leaves too little return margin, arrange a taxi or ship transfer in advance. Ask where you will be dropped in Chora and where the vehicle can collect you again; do not expect a vehicle to reach every stepped lane.

Explore Chora on foot once you arrive. Decide how much climbing suits your group before heading towards the castle. Keeping the route to the lower lanes and one indoor stop makes the day easier to shorten.

Things to Do

Chora and its castle setting: follow the lanes through the settlement towards views of the hilltop fortifications. Use current local access notices before committing to the upper approach; the castle can be appreciated from town without entering it.

Faltaits Museum: this museum introduces Skyrian culture through its folklore, historical and artistic collections. It provides useful context for the houses and craft traditions seen around town. Consult the museum's contact and visit page before going, particularly outside the main season. Its published visitor information includes an older winter notice, so confirm the arrangements for your actual date.

Archaeological Museum: the Hellenic Heritage visitor page describes prehistoric to Roman finds and a traditional Skyrian house display. Choose this or Faltaits according to your interests, rather than assuming both can be fitted around the bus return. Consult the official page for current opening and access information.

Stay around Linaria: if this is your landing harbour, a waterfront break leaves more time near the ship's return point. A beach excursion needs a separate transport plan and is best treated as an alternative to Chora on a short call.

Getting back to your ship

If the timetable leaves too little return margin, arrange a taxi or ship transfer in advance. Ask where you will be dropped in Chora and where the vehicle can collect you again; do not expect a vehicle to reach every stepped lane.

Practical Information

Currency: euro (€). Language: Greek. Emergency: 112.

Bring water, sun protection and secure footwear for stone lanes. Take a covering if you intend to enter a church or monastery, and respect worship and any photography restrictions. Keep the ship's return instructions available offline.

Allow for the journey down from Chora, the transfer back to Linaria and any boarding queue. Ferry-linked bus times can change, and an outward connection alone is not enough to make an independent excursion practical. Agree a backup return plan before travelling inland.
