Plan to come ashore by tender at Marina Grande. Motoscafisti di Capri brings passengers into the port from ships anchored offshore. Its base is at Molo 0, but your ship's briefing gives you the actual landing and return meeting point. Make a note of both.

You're in the harbour settlement when you land. The Piazzetta is uphill in Capri town: the funicular connects Marina Grande with the upper town, while buses and taxis take you by road.

About this port

Capri offers a town walk, a visit to Anacapri and Monte Solaro, or a boat outing. Your first transport choice shapes the rest of the day: Marina Grande is the harbour, Capri town is uphill, and Anacapri is a separate settlement higher on the island. Decide which outing you want before joining a queue.

With just a few hours ashore, Capri town and one nearby viewpoint make a manageable outing. Adding Anacapri, the chairlift and the Blue Grotto can mean one transfer after another. Pick one as your main experience; don't assume they'll all fit.

Getting Around

When it's operating, the funicular gives you a direct four-minute ride between the harbour and Capri town. ATC also runs buses from Marina Grande; a ticket bought at its ticket office costs €2.40 one way (prices checked 2026-09-08). If you're heading to another part of the island, check the route displayed before boarding.

Anacapri needs a road journey. The Monte Solaro chairlift operator directs visitors arriving by bus or taxi from Marina Grande or Capri to Piazza della Vittoria. The funicular doesn't continue to Anacapri.

Walking can be pleasant within the settlements. If you decide on the spot to walk uphill instead of taking transport, make sure you have the fitness and time for it.

Getting back: check your ship's final tender time before going uphill, and keep its contact details with you. Leave time for queues in both directions, the journey downhill and the tender back: reaching Marina Grande is only part of getting back to your ship. A queue for transport down can eat into the time you've left for boarding. If you're taking a taxi, agree the fare and your return collection point. After the Monte Solaro chairlift descent, you still need time to get back to Marina Grande.

Things to Do

Capri town and the Gardens of Augustus. Start at the Piazzetta and take a short walk through town towards the gardens. Check current entry arrangements, and come back by a familiar route. A detour down towards the coast can mean a substantial climb back.

Anacapri and Monte Solaro. The chairlift takes you to the island's highest point, 589 metres above sea level. Use the operator's website for current access, hours and tickets. If you're choosing this for someone with limited mobility, consider the boarding arrangements.

Blue Grotto. The entrance to this sea cave is very low. You go through in a small rowing boat, lying back. Choose it as a deliberate excursion and check sea conditions and waiting time before you leave. A boat tour doesn't guarantee you'll be able to enter the cave, or that a visit will fit before the final tender.

A simpler harbour visit. If queues or the weather make your original plan unappealing, spend the time around Marina Grande and have a meal. Change your plans while the return is still straightforward.
