Ships dock in the passenger port managed by Stazioni Marittime. Its two terminals predominantly used for cruises are Ponte dei Mille and Ponte Andrea Doria; follow your ship's assignment because other passenger berths can also handle cruise vessels.

The operator permits pedestrians only on marked routes and prohibits entering or leaving through operational vehicle gates. Use the signed passenger exit even if a map suggests a shortcut. The Cesare Imperiale promenade connects the two main cruise-terminal areas, but it does not make every quay an unrestricted public walkway.

Genova Piazza Principe station is near the passenger port. Arrange gangway and terminal assistance before arrival if needed. Stazioni Marittime sends an assistance confirmation with the agreed meeting place and time; keep that with your cruise documents.

About this port

Genoa works well as a city call when you keep the return route to your terminal clear. Its two principal cruise terminals are Ponte dei Mille and Ponte Andrea Doria, beside the historic-centre side of the port. Choose between a harbour-focused walk and a route inland to the palaces; a short call need not include both.

Getting Around

The municipality's historic-centre map includes a pedestrian route from the Stazione Marittima area towards Porto Antico. Use that as an orientation aid after leaving the controlled port. For a short visit, the waterfront gives you a route you can retrace; a longer walk can add San Lorenzo and the lanes inland.

For a palace-focused day, make Via Garibaldi the main destination and choose one museum interior after checking admission. The UNESCO property covers the Strade Nuove and its associated Rolli palaces; it is not a blanket designation for Genoa's medieval centre. If you have limited walking capacity, a taxi can reduce the transfer, but confirm the drop-off and access at the individual building.

Things to Do

  • Via Garibaldi: a street within the Strade Nuove and Rolli palace ensemble; exterior viewing can be fitted around a single reserved interior.
  • San Lorenzo: the cathedral in the historic centre, a useful inland focus for a city walk.
  • Porto Antico: the redeveloped waterfront with the aquarium and other visitor attractions; choose an interior only if it leaves time to return through the passenger port.

Practical Information

Currency is the euro; Italian is the official EU language. Call 112 in an emergency. Keep a record of the terminal name and passenger exit, especially if your driver meets you outside the port. Ask for a route suited to your mobility rather than assuming that proximity to the waterfront means a step-free journey.
