Porto di Livorno 2000 manages three passenger terminals and eleven berths spread across the port. Alto Fondale, at quays 46–47, accommodates large cruise ships and serves passengers in transit as well as those starting or ending a cruise. It is not a turnaround-only facility.
The operator provides a ship-to-downtown shuttle and staff alongside the vessel to direct passengers. Save the return boarding point and last shuttle time given by those staff.
Use the port transfer or pedestrian route authorised for your berth. Alto Fondale has taxi and information desks, but a berth elsewhere may have different arrangements. Ask the cruise line to coordinate any mobility assistance with the terminal operator before arrival.
About this port
At Livorno, the first transport decision is how to leave your berth. The next is whether to stay with the city's canals and market or continue inland. Pisa requires a shorter rail journey than Florence, but both outings must include the transfer back through the port at the end of the day.
Getting Around
For Livorno: begin from the confirmed city drop-off. Venezia Nuova's canals and the Mercato delle Vettovaglie provide a compact focus without a railway connection. Check the market's opening arrangements if food stalls are your main reason for visiting.
For Pisa or Florence: allow a second transfer to Livorno Centrale. Autolinee Toscane's 1+ runs from the Grande stop on Via Grande to Livorno Centrale in about 10 minutes on daytime weekday services. The urban ticket costs €2 one way and is valid for 70 minutes. Route 2+ also links the Via Grande area with the station on the operator's city map.
Trenitalia's regional route runs Livorno–Pisa–Empoli–Florence. Search for Pisa Centrale or Firenze Santa Maria Novella as appropriate and check the complete return journey before buying attraction tickets. A Pisa station arrival still leaves a city transfer to Piazza del Duomo. Choose a return train that leaves room for another service if necessary, plus the station-to-port and ship shuttle legs.
Things to Do
- Short call: Livorno. Explore Venezia Nuova and choose a market visit or a meal as the second part of the outing. This is the most flexible choice if disembarkation is delayed.
- One inland destination: Pisa. Focus on the UNESCO-listed Piazza del Duomo, where the cathedral, baptistery, cemetery and leaning bell tower form one ensemble. Tower entry is tied to a booked date and time; leave space between your expected arrival and the admission slot.
- Longer call: Florence. Make Florence the day's sole destination. Reserve one priority interior and treat any further sightseeing as optional. If the available trains leave little contingency, use a cruise-line excursion or choose a closer destination.

Practical Information
Italy uses the euro and Italian is the official language. Call 112 for emergencies. A train reaching Livorno before all-aboard is not enough: you still need to reach the correct port entrance and berth. Save the terminal's return instructions before travelling inland. Porto di Livorno 2000 lists assistance for passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility.
