Cruise ships dock in the commercial port. Dated reporting documents Costa Deliziosa berthed here, and the regional authority identifies a quay dedicated to cruise ships. Historical engineering documentation identifies quay 1 for cruise and cargo use. Obtain the assigned quay and authorised exit arrangements from your ship.

For orientation, a UNIMED transport study places the port roughly 4 km from Schiavonea, 6 km from Corigliano Scalo and 10 km from Corigliano's historic hill town. These are general orientation distances from the 2018 study.

Arrange a ship transfer, excursion or pre-booked vehicle. Use the authorised passenger transfer through the working port. Ensure an independent driver knows the permitted meeting point.

About this port

A call at Corigliano Calabro brings you to Calabria's Ionian coast, but the port and the historic hill town are separate places. Plan a transfer if you want to see the Ducal Castle. Rossano, with its cathedral district and Codex museum, is another distinct destination rather than a continuation of a walk from the harbour.

The two towns now belong to the municipality of Corigliano-Rossano, formed in 2018. For a few hours ashore, choose one historic centre or a coastal outing at Schiavonea. Trying to combine the castle, Rossano and the mountains would leave much of the day to road travel.

Getting Around

Use road transport to reach the historic centres, then explore on foot as your mobility allows. Corigliano's castle occupies the higher part of the old town, where slopes and steps affect the walking. Ask your driver how close the vehicle can approach and where the return pickup will be.

For a limited call, arrange a round trip with an agreed pickup at the port and in the historic centre.

If combining Corigliano and Rossano on a longer excursion, allow each town its own visit and confirm museum access before departure. Keep a return margin for the drive and port entry procedures.

Things to Do

Corigliano and the Ducal Castle. Make the castle and surrounding hill-town streets the focus of a local history outing. The castle has Norman origins and later alterations. Confirm interior access before travelling, or plan an exterior visit and a walk through the surrounding streets.

Rossano and the Codex. The Museo Diocesano e del Codex houses the Codex Purpureus Rossanensis, an early illuminated Gospel manuscript with purple pages. UNESCO entered the manuscript in its Memory of the World register in 2015. This is documentary heritage recognition, not a World Heritage listing for Rossano town. Use the museum's visitor page to check opening and admission arrangements.

Schiavonea. The coastal settlement offers a seafront and fishing-town atmosphere as an alternative to a hill-town visit. It still requires a transfer from the commercial port. Agree a pickup before leaving the driver, especially if you intend to finish with a meal near the sea.

Keep mountain excursions separate. A Sila National Park outing needs its own transport plan and sufficient time. It is not a casual extra after the castle and Rossano during a short call.

Getting back to your ship

If combining Corigliano and Rossano on a longer excursion, allow each town its own visit and confirm museum access before departure. Keep a return margin for the drive and port entry procedures.

Practical Information

Italian is the main language; use euros (€). Call 112 for emergencies.

Carry water and shoes suitable for slopes. Confirm the exact historic centre when arranging a journey: Corigliano, Corigliano Scalo, Schiavonea and Rossano refer to different places. Check venue hours and agree the return fare before leaving the port.
