Arrival & Getting Ashore
Getting to the centre: Molo Garibaldi West arrivals transfer to the Largo Michele Fiorillo terminal before continuing into town; the bus figures below cover Via Chiodo's portici to La Spezia Centrale station.
- Walk: not from Molo Garibaldi; compulsory shuttle through the working port. Walking through the centre is realistic after reaching the passenger terminal.
- Public transport: for the onward station journey, ATC Esercizio bus 3 towards Chiappa from Via Chiodo portici to La Spezia FS (Via Fiume), €1.50 one way with a ticket bought before boarding; about 7 minutes on daytime weekday services, excluding the port transfer and walk to the stop.

The terminal operator identifies Molo Garibaldi West as a cruise berth. The terminal operator's 2026 rules require a shuttle between Garibaldi pier and the passenger terminal at Largo Michele Fiorillo. Start an independent city route from that terminal; do not plan to walk from the ship through the working quay.
Some calls anchor and use tenders. The operator's May 2026 notice identifies Molo Italia as the landing for the specified Royal Caribbean tender calls, with operational alternatives also described at Garibaldi. This does not assign a landing to every ship: use the berth or tender instructions issued for your call, including the return meeting point.
The operator lists vehicles with retractable ramps and assistance for the quay–terminal transfer. Request the support you need from the terminal and cruise line in advance; a terminal's accessible facilities do not establish that a particular ship's tender is suitable.
About this port
Decide first whether to stay in La Spezia, take the railway to the Cinque Terre or visit Portovenere by road. These are three different outings with different departure points. For a short call, the city's pedestrian centre and museums avoid the additional connections needed for the coast.
Getting Around
Cinque Terre by rail: La Spezia Centrale is a separate destination from the cruise terminal. The operator describes a walking route between the waterfront and station through the centre, including Via del Prione. Allow for that city leg as well as the port shuttle before choosing a train. Trenitalia connects La Spezia with the Cinque Terre villages; compare an appropriate single ticket with the Cinque Terre Treno MS Card for the journeys you actually intend to make. Follow the validation instructions for your ticket type.
Portovenere by bus: Trenitalia's official connection guide identifies the town departure stop as Mercato Nord SP 089, away from the railway station entrance. Trenitalia sells this bus leg only together with a rail journey, so a cruise passenger starting in La Spezia should obtain the appropriate bus ticket through ATC.
For a coastal outing, choose one village, or two only if the return connections leave comfortable spare time. A village walk is more adaptable than a through-hike: the national park asks visitors to check each trail's difficulty and accessibility before setting out. The UNESCO designation covers Portovenere, the Cinque Terre and the named islands; it is not a general listing of La Spezia city.
Things to Do
- A city afternoon: combine the waterfront with the pedestrian centre and one museum. The naval museum offers a maritime focus; the Lia Museum is an alternative for art. Choose according to its current opening arrangements.
- A Cinque Terre visit: pick a village from the rail route and make the return train your fixed commitment. Avoid buying several admissions or adding a hike before accounting for the ship–terminal–station transfers.
- Portovenere: make the harbour and Church of San Pietro the focus of a separate outing. Returning to La Spezia with time to spare is more useful on a cruise call than adding another coastal destination.

Practical Information
Italy uses the euro and Italian is the official language. Call 112 for an emergency. Keep the ship's all-aboard time and the shuttle or tender return point together in your day plan. If the outward transfer takes longer than expected, shorten the visit before committing to a second village.
