Ships dock at the cruise terminal on Isola Saloni, beside Canal Lombardo Esterno. The government's cruise commissioner identifies the quays and passenger building, while Venezia Terminal Passeggeri lists Chioggia as a distinct operating berth.
The official terminal project includes a protected pedestrian route along the port road to the Saloni gate. Do not take a shortcut through operational port areas.
Your walk to the old town begins at the assigned berth and continues through the permitted exit.
About this port
Chioggia stands at the southern end of the Venetian Lagoon, with canals, bridges and a working fishing tradition of its own. A few hours are well spent walking Corso del Popolo, turning into the lanes beside Canal Vena and stopping for a meal. Venice requires a separate journey and should be treated as an excursion decision.
The town is part of the UNESCO property Venice and its Lagoon. That shared designation does not make its cruise terminal interchangeable with the terminals serving Venice: check the actual port name on your documents and plan from Chioggia.
Getting Around
Walk within the historic centre, using Corso del Popolo as the main reference point. Canal Vena runs through the town and its bridges offer plenty of opportunities for short loops. Steps over bridges can matter for wheelchair users or anyone avoiding stairs, even where the streets themselves are level.
For Venice, Arriva Veneto publishes route 80 between Sottomarina, Chioggia and Venice's Piazzale Roma. Check where to board, which timetable applies and the return journey before leaving. The bus does not eliminate onward travel within Venice.
An alternative is the ACTV integrated route 11, using the islands of Pellestrina and Lido. It combines land and water transport and reaches Lido Santa Maria Elisabetta, where passengers connect to boats for Venice. It is not a single direct ferry from the cruise terminal to St Mark's Square.
With only a short call, stay in Chioggia. If Venice is the priority, choose a plan with enough time for the full return chain and the final transfer back into the port.
Things to Do
Corso del Popolo and Canal Vena. Make a flexible circuit through the town's main street and canal-side lanes. The cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the churches along the route provide possible interior stops, but the buildings and streets can also be enjoyed without following a museum timetable.
Sant'Andrea and Ponte di Vigo. Continue towards the clock tower beside Sant'Andrea and the bridge at the northern end of the historic centre. These give the walk a clear destination before you turn back. Check tower access locally rather than assuming it is open whenever the church is accessible.
Lagoon history or marine life. The municipal tourism service lists the Museo Civico della Laguna Sud and the Giuseppe Olivi Museum of Adriatic Zoology. Choose one if its current visitor arrangements suit your call; allow time to reach it and enjoy the collection.
Sottomarina. The beach area is an alternative outing when you prefer the coast to church interiors. Check the journey and return point first, particularly if your ship is providing transport only between the terminal and the old town.
