Ships dock at the Palacrociere cruise complex. The terminal operator identifies two principal quays, Calata delle Vele and Don Genta, serving two terminal buildings. Follow the signed passenger exit for your berth; the ship's position determines the first part of the walk.
The operator places the city centre a few hundred metres from the terminal, accessible on foot. Once outside, the old harbour and historic streets are close enough for an independent walking outing.
Palacrociere provides assistance for passengers with reduced mobility. Request the help you need through your cruise line, particularly for the gangway and terminal transfer. An accessible terminal does not mean that every lane, church or fortress entrance in town is step-free.
Keep your cruise card and required identification ready for the return. Allow time for port security screening and follow your cruise line's rules for items brought aboard.
About this port
Savona is a convenient city call: the cruise terminal sits beside the historic centre, so you can spend most of your shore time visiting rather than travelling. Its harbour towers, cathedral complex and Priamar fortress provide a compact introduction to Ligurian history. Allow time for one museum, then use the lanes and waterfront to connect the sights.
For a first visit lasting only a few hours, Savona itself is the practical choice. A train excursion elsewhere introduces an additional journey to the station and leaves less room for delays on the return.
Getting Around
Walking is the simplest way to visit the central sights. Allow additional time from the ship to the terminal exit and, if taking a train, for finding the correct platform. A taxi is an alternative when carrying luggage or conserving energy.
The TPL Linea cruise shuttles operate when commissioned by Costamed for Costa passengers. They are separate from the ordinary city buses.
If you intend to travel by rail, check both the journey and return options with the railway operator before leaving the terminal. Ticket rules depend on the product purchased; follow the instructions on your ticket.
Things to Do
Priamar fortress. Built by Genoa in 1542–44, the fortress occupies the headland above the port. The archaeological museum explains the site's earlier settlement and later transformation. Check museum information before planning an interior visit, and expect changes in level within the complex.
Cathedral and Sistine Chapel. Savona's cathedral complex includes its own Cappella Sistina, the treasury museum and the apartment of Pope Pius VII. Choose the elements open during your call rather than assuming that one entry provides simultaneous access to everything. Respect worship in the cathedral.
Art or ceramics. The municipal tourism service recommends the art collections at Palazzo Gavotti and the ceramics museum in Palazzo del Monte di Pietà. Pick the collection that interests you most; fitting both around the fortress is better suited to a longer stay.
Harbour towers and lanes. Look for the Leon Pancaldo tower beside the harbour, then continue towards the Brandale complex and old streets. This makes a flexible final portion of the day because you remain near the cruise terminal. Leave time for lunch or a coffee before returning through security.
Getting back to your ship
If you intend to travel by rail, check both the journey and return options with the railway operator before leaving the terminal. Ticket rules depend on the product purchased; follow the instructions on your ticket.
Practical Information
The currency is the euro, the local language is Italian, and 112 is the emergency number. Carry water for the fortress walk and shoes suitable for stone paving.
Check attraction hours individually through the municipal tourism and museum links below. Seasonal programmes, worship and events can affect access. On an embarkation day, follow the time on your cruise documents; a sightseeing visit should not replace the time needed for check-in and baggage handling.
