Alongside arrival on Husøya is confirmed for Hurtigruten's Svalbard Line. The operator describes walking from the quay into the village. Municipal documents also identify cruise-related quay facilities and security operations at Galtneset on Husøya. The operator's docking description applies to its own calls.

Do not assume you will arrive at the public ferry landing in the middle of the village. Visit Helgeland puts the museum about five minutes on foot from the ferry and express-boat dock, but that estimate should not be applied to Galtneset or another cruise landing.

Use the permitted exit and walking route into the village. The village walk can be shortened to suit the time available; allow for the return to your actual quay.

About this port

Træna is an offshore island community on the Helgeland coast, with Husøya as the principal village island and the distinctive mountains of Sanna across the water. The Arctic Circle crosses the archipelago. A visit is best approached as time in a small inhabited community, with coastal history, public art and sea views.

For a few hours ashore, stay on Husøya unless a complete island excursion has been arranged. Sanna's cave and peaks belong to a different island, so they require another boat journey after you have left the ship.

Getting Around

Husøya can be explored along local roads and paths. Visit Helgeland's cultural walk connects the village with the Petter Dass Chapel, a water-tower viewpoint and public art. Select a portion that fits your time and walking ability rather than assuming every path is level.

For travel to Sanna or other islands, consult Reis Nordland and plan both outward and return services. The public boat is a transport service with its own timetable, not a cruise shuttle. If a connection does not fit comfortably, keep your outing on Husøya.

Things to Do

Visit Træna Museum. The museum occupies a traditional Nordland house near Træna Church. Its displays include archaeological material from Sanna, giving a way to learn about the archipelago's early inhabitants without an additional crossing. Check the museum visitor information for current access before making it the focus of your walk.

Walk to the Petter Dass Chapel. The small memorial honours the poet-priest and people lost at sea. Its interior contains work by Karl Erik Harr, while the surrounding landscape looks towards Sanna. It is a place for reflection; enter only when open and respect other visitors.

Look for public art and viewpoints. The local cultural route includes a sound sculpture and the Pixel-Ørna sea-eagle mural. The water tower above the chapel provides a viewpoint over the island and surrounding sea. You can build a satisfying outing from these stops and a pause in the village without undertaking a mountain climb.

Visit Sanna with a complete plan. Kirkhelleren cave and the island's mountain landscape are separate excursion choices. Confirm the landing, walking route, return boat and weather arrangements before departing Husøya. A short distance on the map does not remove the need for a reliable connection back to the ship.

Getting back to your ship

For travel to Sanna or other islands, consult Reis Nordland and plan both outward and return services. The public boat is a transport service with its own timetable, not a cruise shuttle. If a connection does not fit comfortably, keep your outing on Husøya.

Practical Information

The currency is the Norwegian krone (NOK). Norwegian is the local language and English is widely understood. Emergency numbers are 110 fire, 112 police and 113 ambulance.

Bring windproof clothing and rain protection. Check food and museum opening locally, and carry what you need for your outing. Keep clear of working fishing areas and do not treat private gardens or waterside buildings as visitor facilities.

Frequently asked

Can you walk from the cruise quay into Træna village? Yes. Hurtigruten describes the route from its Husøya quay as an easy stroll into the village.

Is Træna village walkable during a port call? Yes. Hurtigruten's culture excursion proceeds on foot from the quay, and the village walk can be shortened to suit the call.

Do cruise ships dock or tender in Træna? They dock on Hurtigruten's Svalbard Line. Municipal records also document cruise-related quay and security operations at Galtneset; the archive's broader tender claim is not used.

Where is Træna Museum from the village landing? It is near Træna Church in the village; Visit Helgeland describes it as about five minutes on foot from the public ferry and express-boat dock, not from every cruise quay.
