Rab uses both alongside berthing and tenders. The port authority's current work plan identifies Nova obala, on the operational waterfront, as used by cruise ships. Seabourn Quest has also made anchorage calls with tenders bringing passengers into Rab harbour.

Write down the berth or tender landing before exploring. The harbour includes passenger, small-boat and marina areas, so another boat queue is not necessarily your return point. If you have arranged a pickup, give the driver the ship's confirmed landing location rather than simply “Rab port”.

About this port

Rab Town offers a manageable choice for a brief visit: explore the church precincts on its peninsula, or extend the walk into wooded Komrčar park. Keep these as alternatives until you know how much time you have ashore. Rab is also the island's name; use the town harbour's name when arranging an excursion meeting point.

Getting Around

For a call in Rab Town harbour, make the peninsula your walking base. Choose one church visit, leave time for the waterfront, and add Komrčar only if the return margin allows it. This avoids relying on an additional road or boat connection.

Komrčar's paths run over wooded hills and down towards beaches. A park extension can involve gradients; do not assume that a shaded route is step-free. If mobility is limited, ask locally about a suitable route from the actual landing and turn back before a difficult section.

Things to Do

  • St John the Evangelist: the surviving bell tower stands beside the ruined church. This is a useful stop for understanding why a tower remains in the skyline without a complete church below it; do not assume tower admission is available.
  • Cathedral of the Assumption: visit if open and appropriate around worship. The town's four-tower skyline also includes St Andrew and St Justine, so you can appreciate it without visiting every interior.
  • Komrčar park: choose a short out-and-back walk through the trees if you prefer a break from buildings. Keep the climb back from any beach in your time budget.
  • Harbourfront: finish near your known return point, with enough time for the ship's boarding procedure or tender queue.

Getting back to your ship

Practical Information

  • Access: ask the ship about the complete gangway or tender transfer, including assistance and mobility-aid restrictions. A passenger-capable quay alone does not establish step-free access.
  • Church visits: fit interior visits around worship and keep an outdoor alternative.
  • Currency: euro (€), introduced in Croatia on 1 January 2023.
  • Emergency number: 112, free and available around the clock in Croatia.

Frequently asked

Can you walk from Rab cruise port into the old town? Yes. From Rab Town's passenger waterfront, exploring the peninsula on foot is a realistic choice, with the Cathedral of the Assumption as a landmark.

Do cruise ships dock or tender in Rab? Both arrangements are used. Nova obala serves cruise ships alongside, while Seabourn Quest has brought passengers into Rab harbour by tender.

What is the terrain like in Rab's Komrčar park? Its shaded paths cross wooded hills and descend towards beaches, so allow for gradients and the climb back.
