The port authority identifies Riječki gat as the quay used for cruise ships and yachts; Riječki and Carinski gat form the passenger area. Azamara lists Pula among its tender ports, so both docking and tendering occur. The port also permits anchoring north-west of Riječki gat and publishes tariffs for international cruise vessels both at anchorage and alongside.
Record your ship's actual return quay or tender landing and last return time before leaving the waterfront.
About this port
For a short Pula call, choose between entering the Arena and walking through the centre towards the Forum. Combining both is reasonable once you know your landing point and return deadline; an excursion to Brijuni needs a separate transport plan. The Arena is a first-century Roman amphitheatre, while Kandlerova and Sergijevaca streets connect the central sights around Kaštel hill.
Getting Around
The passenger waterfront and Arena are in the same central harbour area. Once outside the port, walking lets you link the Arena with Kandlerova, the Forum and Sergijevaca without arranging a vehicle. Use the street circuit around Kaštel hill if you do not want to add the climb towards the fortress.
For Brijuni, the national park's boats depart from Fažana. An independent visit therefore needs transport to Fažana, park admission and a suitable boat back, followed by transport to the ship. Check all those connections before booking; for a short call, staying in central Pula gives more flexibility.
Things to Do
- Arena interior: make this the main visit if Roman history is your priority. Check the museum's visitor page before committing: events can close the monument or affect sightseeing. On 2026-09-07, the museum advertised a full closure on 10 September 2026; recheck for your visit.
- Forum and Temple of Augustus: walk to the square for the temple exterior, then decide whether to visit inside. This can also form an alternative if Arena admission is unavailable.
- Kandlerova street: use its galleries, shops and cafés as optional stops on the route between the Arena and Forum, keeping the return deadline in view.
Getting back to your ship
For Brijuni, the national park's boats depart from Fažana. An independent visit therefore needs transport to Fažana, park admission and a suitable boat back, followed by transport to the ship. Check all those connections before booking; for a short call, staying in central Pula gives more flexibility.
Practical Information
- Arena access: the museum directs wheelchair users to entrance C for the central level and entrance B for the underground exhibition. Moving between them requires going outside. Gravel and narrow sections limit access below; the upper level is reached only by stone stairs.
- Ship access: arrange boarding assistance for your ship. Azamara requires tender passengers to take steps and excludes motorised wheelchairs and mobility scooters from its tenders.
- Currency: euro (€), introduced in Croatia on 1 January 2023.
- Emergency number: 112, free and available around the clock in Croatia.
