The port's maps identify berths 1–6 in Västerhamn, the Western Harbour. Cruise Baltic's port profile places quay 1–2 approximately 900 m from the centre and says a shuttle is not required. The municipal walking map also describes the centre as a 900 m walk from Western Harbour.

Follow the signed passenger route out of the terminal area. Keep your quay number for the return: passenger ferries also use this harbour. Ask the ship about gangway assistance if you need it.

The Maritime Walk is signposted from Western Harbour to Market Square. The southbound city bus makes a loop through residential districts before returning to the centre.

About this port

Mariehamn's maritime sights occupy both sides of town. The Maritime Museum and Pommern are in the Western Harbour; the Maritime Quarter is on the eastern shore. On a short call, a museum visit on the west side leaves more time than crossing town to see every waterfront attraction.

Getting Around

A central walk can focus on Torggatan, which Visit Åland identifies as a street for shops and cafés. Add the eastern Maritime Quarter only if the outward walk still leaves enough time to get back to the Western Harbour.

For Pommern, start at the Maritime Museum at Hamngatan 2. Its terrace provides the bridge to the ship. This is a visitor entrance for the museum vessel, separate from the embarkation route for your cruise ship.

Things to Do

  • Maritime Museum and Pommern: treat them as one main visit. The museum's ticket covers the museum and historic vessel, but Pommern has a separate season. Its current visitor page lists May–September for ship visits, checked on 2026-09-07; check the exact date and last admission before going. Toilets are in the museum, not aboard Pommern, and the operator provides lift access to the ship's three visitor decks.
  • Town centre: choose Torggatan for a shorter outing with time to pause, then return to your assigned quay.
  • Maritime Quarter: on the eastern side, wooden boats, boatbuilding and craft workshops provide a different view of the town's maritime life. This is a separate walk, so avoid adding it late in the call merely because both attractions have “maritime” in their names.

Getting back to your ship

Return: save the ship's all-aboard time and allow for terminal access after reaching the harbour.

Practical Information

  • Currency: euro (€).

  • Return: save the ship's all-aboard time and allow for terminal access after reaching the harbour.
