Plan for a tender transfer to Kamares. SeaDream's Sifnos excursion describes returning to the Kamares seafront and walking back to the tender dock, establishing this operator's landing in the village. Confirm the exact quay and last return tender with your own ship before booking transport ashore.
The Sifnos Port Office describes the harbour's pier and public facilities. Follow the authorised passenger route out of the working quay. The settlement's restaurants and shops are in the port area, so a local visit does not require a transfer to Apollonia.
The port describes exposure to southwesterly winds. Follow the ship's tender instructions and leave time for the return crossing.
About this port
Kamares is the main port of Sifnos, with a beach, places to eat and pottery workshops in the coastal settlement. It offers a straightforward base for a short shore visit. Apollonia, inland, and the older settlement of Kastro make alternative destinations when your call allows time for transport.
Choose between staying around the bay and visiting one inland settlement. The first option keeps the return simple; the second gives a broader view of Sifnos but needs time for a bus or taxi journey back to the harbour.
Getting Around
The municipality places Kamares about 5 km from Apollonia. That makes Apollonia a separate journey rather than the next part of a harbour stroll. The municipal Kamares entry describes the settlement and its relationship to the island's centre.
Sifnos Bus publishes the current island timetable. The schedule for 1–13 September 2026 shows Kamares–Apollonia–Artemonas; the published regular fare on this corridor is €2.20 one way. In Apollonia, the municipality places the Kamares bus stop outside the post office; other routes use the main junction.
For a walking return, the municipality's Sifnos Trails project describes Trail 10 from Apollonia's main square/post office to the bus stop by Kamares's parking area: 5.7 km and about 1 hour 50 minutes in the proposed downhill direction. It follows the old donkey route and is an inland hike, with the final approach to your tender dock additional. That downhill estimate does not describe an uphill walk from the landing. Trail 10 route.
Taxis offer another option when the bus timetable does not fit your call. Arrange the return pickup before travelling. A hire vehicle adds collection and return time, so it is unlikely to simplify a visit limited to one village.
Things to Do
Stay around Kamares. Combine time beside the bay with a meal or café stop. Keep swimming separate from the operational harbour and judge conditions on the day.
Look for local pottery. The municipality lists pottery workshops in Kamares and describes opportunities to visit local potters. Looking at the shapes and uses of cooking pots and tableware adds context to browsing. Consult the municipal pottery guide, then arrange a workshop visit with the potter.
Visit Apollonia. The island's inland centre is a natural focus for a village walk and a pause in its main square. The municipality locates the Folklore Museum there. Use the Apollonia guide for orientation and plan the return bus stop before exploring.
Choose Kastro for architecture. The former capital preserves a fortified arrangement of closely grouped buildings, with ancient stonework incorporated into later structures. Its lanes and gateways reward a compact walk. The municipal Kastro page describes the archaeological museum and the chapel of the Seven Martyrs nearby. An extended route down towards the coast adds slopes and steps.
