Mytilene receives both alongside and tender calls. Sirena has berthed in the harbour, while Seven Seas Splendor has brought passengers ashore by tender. Allura's tender call on 23 July 2026 was cancelled because of swell. The Hellenic Ports Association also lists the cruise berth.

Confirm your ship's actual berth or tender landing before arranging a meeting. The city develops around the harbour, but the walking route begins at the permitted passenger exit, which may be some distance from the gangway.

If you arrive by tender, keep the final tender time separate from the ship's sailing time. Allow for queuing and the transfer back. If you dock, follow the crew's exit instructions through the working port before starting the town walk.

About this port

Mytilene, also written Mitilini, is the capital and main port of Lesvos. The harbourfront, Ermou shopping street and castle provide enough variety for a day ashore without crossing the island. Start with the waterfront to get your bearings, then choose the castle or a museum before returning through the centre.

This is a different destination from Molyvos, also called Mithymna, in the north-west. Lesvos is a substantial island, so an itinerary combining the capital with distant villages needs a realistic road-transfer plan. For a short call, Mytilene's own streets and monuments are the more forgiving choice.

Getting Around

The waterfront and central shopping streets form a useful route on foot. The castle introduces an uphill section and uneven ground, so allow more time than you would for the same distance along the quay. A visit confined to the waterfront and Ermou is an alternative if climbing is unsuitable.

City buses operated by Astiko KTEL Mytilinis start at Sappho Square and serve the city and neighbouring villages.

KTEL Lesvos operates the separate intercity network. Its Mytilene–Petra–Molyvos service takes about 90 minutes end to end and costs €8.30 one way for an adult (checked 2026-09-08). Sigri is another intercity destination. Use the operator's route planner to choose both directions before committing to an island outing.

Things to Do

Harbourfront and Ermou. The municipal tourism guide identifies Ermou as the commercial heart of the city and highlights the buildings around the port. Combine the two for a walk with shops, cafés and opportunities to stop. Keep enough time to return through the passenger exit rather than aiming only for the waterfront.

Mytilene Castle. The fortress occupies the peninsula beside the city. The Ministry of Culture attributes much of its surviving form to the Gattilusi family, who ruled between 1355 and 1462, and later Ottoman work. Check current entrance arrangements before climbing up.

Churches and museums. Agios Therapon is a prominent city landmark. The municipal guide also identifies archaeological and Byzantine museums, while the local antiquities service provides information on archaeological routes. Choose an institution that is open during your call, rather than assuming all museums share the same hours.

Lesvos carries UNESCO Global Geopark status. This recognises the island's geological heritage. Distant geological sites require their own excursion planning.
