Arrival & Getting Ashore

Getting to the centre: The route is from the Molo Cassone passenger landing beside Piazza Flavio Gioia to Piazza Duomo and the cathedral.

  • Walk: realistic; cross the level waterfront at Piazza Flavio Gioia, then enter the pedestrian centre, with the cathedral steps only after reaching the square.

Amalfi is a tender port. Seabourn lists it among its tender destinations; record the anchorage, landing and return boats from your own ship's instructions. The municipality identifies Molo Cassone as the town's passenger landing, beside Piazza Flavio Gioia.

The central lanes and Piazza Duomo are reached on foot from the seafront. The cathedral's prominent staircase is a separate climb beyond reaching the square.

Make sure your itinerary really names Amalfi. The terminal marketed as Amalfi Coast Cruise Terminal is in Salerno, a different port; its docking arrangements should not be applied to this tender call.

About this port

Amalfi rewards a short stay centred on the town itself. The cathedral rises above the main square, lanes lead inland from the waterfront, and the Paper Museum gives a different perspective on the valley behind the harbour. Trying to combine several coastal towns can leave little time to enjoy any of them.

Amalfi is within the Costiera Amalfitana World Heritage property. UNESCO recognises a cultural landscape shaped by settlements, terraces and the mountainous coast. This is a regional designation, rather than a separate listing for the cathedral alone.

Getting Around

The centre is suited to walking, with pedestrian streets around the cathedral and the inland shopping route. Steps and steep side lanes make some routes unsuitable for visitors avoiding stairs. Keep the return route simple if your time or mobility is limited.

SITA Sud operates coastal buses, including the Amalfi–Positano–Sorrento corridor. Use its summer 2026 timetable notice for the relevant journey. Crowded boarding points and road delays can consume the margin in a short call.

For Ravello or another town, arrange a clear return plan before leaving Amalfi, whether using a bus, taxi or excursion. A ferry outing adds a second sea journey to a day already dependent on tenders. Check both sailings and the weather before committing.

Things to Do

Cathedral and Cloister of Paradise. The staircase, decorated façade and square provide a natural starting point. The cathedral complex includes the cloister, museum and crypt, but admission arrangements should be checked before joining a queue. Respect services and choose an exterior visit if worship or restricted access prevents sightseeing inside.

Paper Museum. Continue inland for an introduction to Amalfi's handmade-paper tradition. This makes a useful second visit after the cathedral and changes the emphasis from maritime history to local manufacture. Check the museum's own website for visit options and ticket arrangements.

Explore the lanes. Wander a little beyond the busiest part of the main street, then return towards the sea for a meal or drink. Pick a route that matches your ability on stairs rather than assuming every alley leads to an easy shortcut.

One excursion, if time permits. Ravello or a coastal boat trip can replace part of the town visit on a longer call. Avoid combining either with several other destinations when a missed connection would put the last tender at risk.

Getting back to your ship

Practical Information

Italian is the main language; use euros (€). Call 112 for emergencies.

Carry water and wear shoes suitable for steps. Check individual businesses for opening times instead of relying on a universal afternoon closure. Keep the ship's return instructions handy and leave a margin for the waterfront and tender queue.
