Opatija has both passenger quays and an anchorage. Katarina Line docks its coastal-cruise vessels in Opatija harbour; Azamara lists Opatija among its tender ports. The port authority lists 110 m of waterfront for international passenger traffic, an anchorage for larger passenger ships and a landing pier for tenders and local boatmen.

The passenger port is in town. Before leaving the landing area, identify the return pier and the ship's last tender time if relevant.

About this port

Opatija suits a shore visit built around a coastal walk or a museum stop. The Lungomare links its seafront landmarks, while the Croatian Museum of Tourism at Villa Angiolina explains the resort's development. For a short call, choose a limited stretch of shore and leave time for the return to your landing point.

Getting Around

The Lungomare provides a route between seafront sights, including the Maiden with the Seagull sculpture and the area around Villa Angiolina. An out-and-back walk lets you turn around as soon as your remaining time requires it. The promenade continues beyond Opatija towards neighbouring settlements; reaching a destination along it also commits you to the return journey.

A vehicle excursion makes sense if you want to travel farther along the riviera, but arrange both the collection point and return before setting off. The local bus option above starts at the market stop, rather than at the gangway.

Things to Do

  • Choose a coastal walk: use the Lungomare and make the Maiden with the Seagull a possible turnaround point, depending on where you land. The waterfront architecture provides interest without needing to coordinate several admissions.
  • Choose an indoor visit: Villa Angiolina houses the Croatian Museum of Tourism. Check the museum's own visitor page and confirm opening with it before making this the centre of your day; official websites currently give different hours.
  • Add a park pause: Angiolina Park contains the villa and Swiss House. Combine the grounds with the museum if time permits, or make the park your destination if you want a shorter outing.

Getting back to your ship

A vehicle excursion makes sense if you want to travel farther along the riviera, but arrange both the collection point and return before setting off. The local bus option above starts at the market stop, rather than at the gangway.

Practical Information

  • Currency: euro (€). Croatia adopted it on 1 January 2023.
  • Mobility: Azamara requires tender passengers to take steps and excludes motorised wheelchairs and mobility scooters from tenders. Arrange any boarding assistance and museum access for your particular ship and visit.
  • Walking plan: wear secure footwear and carry water. Keep the ship's return instructions available rather than using a suggested sightseeing route as your deadline.
  • Emergency number: 112 is Croatia's free, round-the-clock emergency number.
